Aamjiwnaang First Nation
The Aamjiwnaang First Nation, previously referred to as the Chippewas of Sarnia First Nation, is a community belonging to the Anishinaabe (Ojibwe) indigenous group. Situated adjacent to the St. Clair River in Ontario, Canada, the reserve is just three miles away from Lake Huron’s southernmost point. It lies opposite the U.S. border from Port Huron, Michigan. The land was secured through agreements made with the British Crown back in the 1820s. The community comprises roughly 2,000 members, with around 850 residing on the reserve land. Their ancestral language is Ojibwe.
