This pottery fragment came from the rim of a pot and has some fine decoration. These details were likely achieved using an awl. The holes were pushed almost all the way through the clay but not completely. This type of decoration is called punctates. The bump that is left on the inside of the pot is also decorative. The term for those bumps is bosses.
Cultural Insight
The pots were often used for various practical purposes like food storage, cooking, or carrying water, but they could also have ceremonial uses.
