A fishing tool used to sink nets and hold them in place. Notches were carved into the sides of the stone. They were used to secure a rope that was tied around the middle of the net sinker. The net floated on the surface of the water, and the net sinker acted as an anchor to keep it secured in one location. You can see wear across the stone where string or rope was tied around it.
Cultural Insight
Fishing has long been a central aspect of Anishinaabe culture, serving both as a means of sustenance and as a significant cultural and spiritual practice.
