Mission + Impact
After centuries of colonial treatment, the indigenous peoples of the First Nations of Canada are still facing the challenge of recovering their cultural voice and social status. Part of this challenge is preserving their knowledge, history, culture, art and language. The Elders of these communities are ageing, and as many perish, so will the teachings and knowledge they have obtained, creating a threat of future members not having access to this information.
The Culture Capture Project is a not-for-profit that will address the challenge of artifact preservation and education. Our team digitally captures hundreds of artifacts and cultural items of interest currently housed in archives across Canada. These artifacts range from small tools and burial trinkets to large crafted canoes and dodems. This project is an innovative solution to repatriate more indigenous items while maintaining a public record and documentation.
This system allows First Nations across Canada to utilize this preservation technique. This also helps educate non-Indigenous peoples in direct support of Canada’s commitment to Truth and Reconciliation.

Documentation can stretch beyond inanimate objects and into performance art, as traditional movements are also lost. Another component of the Culture Capture Project is digitally mapping traditional dance and movements. Other performers can study, replicate, or break down these performances based on this work.
Our Organization
The Culture Capture Project was incorporated to provide technological solutions and educational opportunities to children while repatriating artifacts to First Nations.
